Panasonic GH5 – a foremost choice for the professional videographer:

The Lumix DC- GH5 is the fifth edition  of the company’s venture. It has become a sensation in the ‘hybrid’ line up of video and still cameras. All those who are interested in the realm of motion picture work are likely to pick it up. Before this GH4 was the favourite of all the Indie filmmakers and photographers. GH5 has just moved forward where the GH4 stopped technology wise.

The most attractive feature of the camera has become the 20MP Four Thirds sensor which is far from its predecessor and its deep video- centric feature set it has stepped up above all the CSCs.

The company is of the view that the GH4 will still maintain a respectable position with its lower-cost option and will not go out of the game, for those who do not need the extra and additional capability that GH5 brings for the specialized users.

But for many users the additional features of in-body stabilization and 4K video which works without cropping is enough to make the camera a worthwhile upgrade. But according to me, any knowledgeable person regarding cameras would realize that Panasonic has upgraded almost every characteristic of the camera’s performance and presentation.

Some of the key features that has attracted me to the camera apart from its 20MP camera, is the bigger grip that has a new handy video record button.

The GH5 has a full sized HDMI for the convenience of the users making it possible for the users with no need to carry big YAGH attachment.

It has the burst and video shooting options that can make anyone’s head spin.

Other features include:

• Has waveform and vectorscope monitors.
• The advanced level of DFD autofocus.
• An in-body image stabilization system with the support of ‘Dual IS 2’.
• It uses an Autofocus point joystick.
• It helps in 9 fps shooting with continuous autofocus.
• It has a dual UHS II card slots.
• Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth.
• Full width of the sensor used while taking all 4k Footage.
• Rack focus mode with pre-configured setting.

Like any other camera, it has its pros and cons.

The GH5 can be chosen for an outstanding video quality.

The pro-level video features makes it stand out from its competitors.

The GH5 incorporates all superb and mind blowing ergonomics for photos and videos.

The only major disadvantage I see with GH5 is the costs involved.

It is very expensive when the features are compared with that of the GH4. Secondly, most of the features that it claims to be better than GH4 are of no use to most of the users. In fact many might not even understand the meaning of such features.

And a slightly small problem is that the noise made while clicking the photos is slightly more than its direct competitors.

So basically I would conclude like GH5 is a more professional option for serious photographers and worth a buy, irrespective of the huge cost involved.

Overniew of Panasonic GH1
Features

Technically, Panasonic GH1 is not a DSLR camera as it idoes not have a pentaprism desing, mirror box. However, it has interchangeable lens arrangement. It comprises of a 12.1 - megapixel image sense with 800x900 pixel resoulution and an electronic viewfinder capable of 60 frames per second, which is amazing. It also has a 3-inch swivel LCD.

Look and Feel

Initially, when you see Panasonic GH1, its shapre looks little odd. The viewfinder or flash projection in the center is wide and kept on the lower side. While the lens mount seems unusually small, the shutter button is protruding.

Howerver, the back portion of Gh1 is same as G1; the only difference is the record button on the upper right corner

Control Layout

While Gh1 is a non-SLR digital camera, its controls are equitably similar to that of a DSLR and even more. There is a mode dial on the upper side that shows a substantial range of different options to choose from. These can be classified as three sets, i.e. advanced scene mode, advance and basic. Every set has some option to select from. While advanced scene mode incorporates Portrait and Sports mode, the advanced mode has Creative Motion Picture Mode, Shutter Priority, and Aperture Priority. Similarly, Basic mode includes Program and Intelligent Auto modes.

This Panasonic Gh1 has the ability to utilize autofocus feature during the video recoridng also and seems like it is built on absolutely advanced technology.

Benefits of Panasonic GH1

  • It is great for making HD movies
  • It has compact camera with double duty
  • It has Live Histogram, which is a great tool
  • It has additional features as compared to DSLR
  • its Manual Movie mode enables you to select the aperture, shutter speed, white balance as well as ISO as per your requirement.
  • Its Autofocus feature can be used during video recording also
  • Its articulating LCD screen enable you to shoot video convenienetly from the tricky angles.

Pricing

When Pananoinc GH1 was realeased in 2009, its pricning was $1,499. However , today you can get if for only $949.

Conclusion

Panasonic has added numerous excellent capabilities in its GH1 camera such as no pentaprism or mirror that help the camera stay lighter, contrast detect autofocus and many more. Panasonic has tried to incorporate every feature that you expect from a digital camera such as the ablity to make sophisticated and high-resolution HD movies, fast auto focus, image stabilization, electronic view finder. etc.

all in all, this camera is very impressive and useful and is highly recommended.
