Welcome to the world of Mirrorless cameras: GH4

When someone syas they have a passion for videography, what does it really mean? It is the professionalism and deication that make for a passionate videographer who in spite of all the obstacles and challenges keep moving towards what he is looking for. Isn't it? So, one can say that passion is the driving force that makes a videographer what he is or where ever he is standing in his field.

But apart from being passionate, I think a videographer needs a camera that does justice to all his passion and hard work. The camera shall capture the video in the same way in which it is captured in the eyes of the videographer.

Comparison with previous models
And I have found a camera which is very close to this feature of capturing that perfect shot and making a video in the very perfect way, with less complaints, the " Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4".
It resembles a lot like its predecessor "GH3", but in technicality, it has outnumbered it and I can rate it as one of the most capable and skilful still and video cameras I have ever come accross.

And all this comes for a price tag which is a mass-market price tag. The price and the unmatched quality of the camera is something which makes it worth a buy for all the professional videographers like me. Even people who are passionate about videography can invest in this camera and surprise themeselves with their own work.

Many a times it is seen that a newer version of any prduct is just an incremental progression of the previous model and there is no big technological advancement. But there are exceptions to every rule and Lumix GH4 is one such exception, I believe.

Features

  • The important attractive feature of GH4 is that it has become the first CSC to offer 4K video, which is the lates in the high resolution video capturing stream. And it does not stop here.
  • The Model is found to have many high-end features which has made the GH series so popular till date. Ofcourse, with a lot of improvement made to its predecessor.
  • Some of the headline features are, namely it provides excellent quality in still image and gives a fantastic and highly detailed video quality.
  • Its video recording is very superior with chops with 4K video, which includes both cinema 4K and the ultra HD.
  • It has great AF performance and provides a burst shooting. Has a dust proof and splash proof magnesium alloy body with a built-in Wi-Fi.

But like any other product it also has some limitations. It is slowly noticed that the buffer clearing with RAW files is sluggish and the rolling shutter that is noticeable on the 4K video is not as compact as most of the Mirrorless cameras.

Conclusion: If you are an existing user of GH3, you shall spend time on this version which has a menu to go through, so that you don't miss out on any feature which might prove to be usefull to you as a videographer.

Panasonic GH 3 : Perfect for Video Enthusiasts

Videography is my passion and according to me, video cameras are the most sensible investment a passionate videographer one can make into. For a professional, it becomes a must have.

In the last few years, there has been an increase in what is known to be the ' Compact System Camera'. It is a handy term, and a wide range of video cameras, in which not all in reality are actually compact. See, there are two classifications in it. On the one hand, I have seen CSCs that are made without electornic viewfinders, which live up to their name of compact.

On the other hand, I observed, are the big and sporty cameras which does not only have the electronic viewfinders, but also DSLR - like the chunky control system and the handgrips. In my opinion, it is very misleading to call them as compact.

The latest addition to my set of cameras I made was the GH3. It is the first Lumix interchangeable lens camera. It comes with an option of integrated Wi-Fi connectivity. This feature is becoming a must have for all the recent digital camera to be launched.

So it's actually good that the GH3 had made itself future proof as far as technology is concerned. Getting back to the Wif-Fi feature of the Gh3, I must confess it has changed my experience of saving and sharing my videos to a great extent. With the built-in feature I send my videos directly to my PC, or many a times also take their backup in the cloud without using any lead for the same. Doesn't that sound great?

In addition to this feature, when the Lumix link app is downloaded, which is very easily and freely available on the Play Store and Apple App Store, the camera can be controlled from a remote place, using a smartphone.

What makes it so speacial for videogrpahy:

  • Some features which are only found in high end video cameras.
  • It has high bit rate recording formats (which is up to 72Mbps)
  • Has a resolution of 1920x1080 video frame, which rates up to 60 frames per second.
  • Has a special heat-dispersing desing, making long hours of videography possible.
  • Suitable for all category of videographers- beginners, advanced and professional users.
Go through some of the special features of the video camera that makes it worth a buy:
  • It has a mognesium alloy body, which makes it dust and splash proof.
  • It has an ISO of 200-12800, which is an extended verson of ISO 125-256000.
  • It has an AF speed of 0.07 seconds.
  • The mic socket and headphone socket is just 3.5mm
  • It can be controlled by an Android and IOS application using Wi-Fi.
  • It allows a 6 fps continous shooting.
  • It is a very capable and sensible camera, Quick focus and has a good burst shooting rate. It is very popular among the videographers. If video capturing is the major concer, then I shall suggest GH3 over other camers.
Comparison to the competitors like Samsung Galaxy:
  • Of course I do not think it has gone to the extent to outshining the Samsung Galaxy camera, which includes a 3G and Android, which is almost a mobile phone like interface.
  • There are a few drawbacks like being costlier and laging the competition in spite of high ISOs. Also, the EVF becomes choppy in the low light.
Conclusion: It is ideal for video making. So I would conclude saying that it might not be the best of cameras, but it makes for an excellent video camera for all the video enthusiasts.
